I LOVE that you did this for your readers. Thank you so, so much. I have wanted to make one of these cushions forever and just could not figure out how to do it!

I do have a question though. On the tufting of the sides. If I understand correctly the stitches go from the side to the top, and from the side to the bottom, right? Also, how far apart are they from each other, and also from the top and the bottom of the gusset?
I would guess that they are the same measurement from the edge of the gusset to the edge of the top and bottom of the pillow, but don't know that measurement or the measurement of the amount of space between them on the side of the gusset.

you´re welcome! I´m very happy that you find it useful.

For the tufting of the sides you have to insert the needle from the top (front piece) to the side (gusset) and then, from the side (gusset) to the top (front piece). Once you finished surrounding the front piece, you turn the pillow and do the same with the back piece and the gusset.
The stitches are around 1 inch apart from each other, the length of the stitch is around 1/4 inch. And they are between 1 and 1 1/2 inches from the edge of the front, back and gusset pieces.
You guessed right, like I said it´s between 1 and 1 1/2 inches from the edges of the pillow.

What I think I would do is go down to our foam store and have them cut me some pieces of sofa cushion foam and use that to give it some stiffness. That way you won't be sitting on the floor when the stuffing compresses. Just a thought. Love the idea, great for little ones and more seating!

The dimensions are the ones that appear on the patterns minus the fabric the ends up inside the sewing allowance (around 17 inches x 17 inches x 3,5 inches high)
But you can make them any size you like.

This is definitely the best tutorial I've seen, with fantastic diagrams and markings. You spell it out in plain English beautifully for those of us who are craft-challenged. I will attempt to make one of these for my porch bench...35" X 15.5" - Is it possible to make a 5 point tufted design (visually like the '5' side of dice) vs the 9 point tuft? And will it still work? Since my project is rectangular in shape, would I be able to add 3 more to have a total of 8 tufts? Not sure if that makes sense...? My computer won't allow me to type the pattern without the underscores so you'll need to pretend they are not there but patterned like this:
*____*_____* vs. this: *___*___*___*
__*____*____ vs. this: *___*___*___*
*____*_____* vs. this: *___*___*___*

Hi! I´m glad you liked it!
You can certainly do that. Just make sure that the tufts are not more than 5 inches apart from each other and try to use a filling that is not too slippery.
You can divide the 15¨ height with 2 tufts aprox. 5 inches apart, move 5 inches to one side and place 1 tuft in the center, move 5 inches to the side and place another 2, and so on.
